The Urban College of Boston: A Two-Year College seeks two outstanding educators to continue the expansion of its very successful Early Childhood Education degree program. The College, chartered in 1993, is accredited by The New England Association of Schools and Colleges and enjoys close working partnerships with community-based child care organizations such as Head Start and NAEYC.


Adjunct Faculty - Fall 2009

The Urban College of Boston (UCB) will be offering a new Certificate Program in Gerontology beginning in September 2009. This unique 21 credit program will involve college-level courses and an internship, culminating in paid job placements by August 2010 in various employment settings focused on gerontology.

UCB is seeking to hire qualified instructors to teach at the adjunct level. Courses will mostly be taught during evening hours and possibly on Saturdays.

 

We need experienced instructors in the following courses and a professional experienced in overseeing student internships:

 

  • Life Span Psychology
  • Psychology of Aging
  • Concepts and Practices with the Elderly
  • Case Management: Social and Economic Implications of Aging
  • Counseling: Interpersonal Communication in the Aging Network

Director of Academic Grants & Special Projects


Responsibilities:

The Urban College of Boston, Inc., is seeking to hire a very capable individual to direct the work of this important office presently managing a portfolio of grant programs. The College, chartered in 1993, was re-accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges in 2006, and enjoys close working relationships with community-based child care organizations such as NAEYC and Head Start. Urban College has been designated an Hispanic Serving Institution [HSI] by the US Department of Education.

The Director implements the grant-funded multi-year academic programs of the College, that include: LHSP (Hispanic-Latino Service Partnership) funded by the Federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS); CCEO Program (Child Care Economic Opportunity) funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), a program for family childcare providers in Lawrence and Boston MA; “Health and Food Safety” credential program funded by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA); and the Academic Student Support Enhancement and Training (ASSET) program, funded by the US Department of Education (DOE); as well as “Building Careers in ECE” funded by the Massachusetts Department of Education. Annual grant revenue presently totals about $600,000.

Position reports to the Academic Dean.

Duties:         

      • Coordinates advisory committees, including community partners.
      • Coordinates budget needs and expenditures of funds.
      • Writes and submits required reports to funding sources. and Assists in identifying, seeking, and writing grants that may originate in the Office of Academic Affairs.

                           

Current projects:

      • Assist in forming NAEYC accreditation committee.
      • Support Building Careers Program (MA DEEC).
      • Developing HSI Programs proposal for Title V funding (DOE). 

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education related field, + at least three years of experience. Leadership success as project manager or director. Fluent in English, written and spoken. (Spanish, in addition, ideal) Capable of facilitating a team-based approach, a communicator who takes initiative and follows through.

Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with experience.
