Staff Accountant
Target Hire Date: June 2008
The Urban College of Boston has been accredited since 2000, and offers degree programs in Early Childhood Education, Human Services, and General Studies leading to the Associates of Arts degree. Approximately 1,000 students enrolled each year.
The Staff Accountant is responsible for the accounting and analysis of revenue, as well as A/P and A/R. This includes student billing, revenue accounting, reporting student accounts and financial aid funds using SONIS system. Will track and record all invoices presented to the College for payment under various grants and contracts, handles general ledger using QuickBooks, and manages annual audit.
Extensive direct contact with bi-lingual student population; knowledge of Spanish a plus.
Professional training required in accounting/finance, plus significant related experience, knowledge of Excel is required. Two years experience in a similar/related position.
Compensation: $ 19.00/hour; eligible for health & dental benefit programs.
Work from Part-time (.6 fte) to Full-time.

Administrative Assistant to the President
Target Hire Date: June 2008
Duties: The Urban College of Boston is seeking a polished, articulate, seasoned professional to perform high-level administrative responsibilities for the President. This is a high visibility position. The person hired will represent the President’s Office to the College community, Board of Trustees, and external constituents. Responsibilities include anticipating and meeting the administrative needs of the President; multi-tasking to handle a rapid pace of activity; able to prioritize matters requiring the President’s attention and to assist in implementing corresponding action plans; managing the President’s calendar to assure maximum productivity and efficiency; collaborating with other various departments on college-wide functions; and to coordinate contact and support shared tasks with the Academic Dean, Dean of Administration, and the Director of Institutional Advancement.
Qualifications: Three years, or more, professional executive assistant experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook, with knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
Excellent communication and organization skills; attention to detail and confidentiality are essential.
College degree.

ACADEMIC DEAN, to begin no later than September 1, 2008

The College, chartered in 1993, was re-accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges in 2006, and enjoys close working relationships with community-based child care organizations such as NAEYC and Head Start. Urban College has been designated an Hispanic Serving Institution [HSI] by the US Department of Education.
The Academic Dean reports directly to the President and serves as the chief academic officer overseeing Associate Degree programs in Early Childhood Education, Human Services Administration, General Studies, as well as a variety of certificate programs. The Dean will be responsible for academic strategy, planning, and curriculum development, transfer and articulation agreements, faculty recruitment supervision and evaluation, as well as student assessments and learning support services.

Director of Academic Grants & Special Projects, Spring 2008
Responsibilities:
The Urban College of Boston, Inc., is seeking to hire a very capable individual to direct the work of this important office presently managing a portfolio of grant programs. The College, chartered in 1993, was re-accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges in 2006, and enjoys close working relationships with community-based child care organizations such as NAEYC and Head Start. Urban College has been designated an Hispanic Serving Institution [HSI] by the US Department of Education.
The Director implements the grant-funded multi-year academic programs of the College, that include: LHSP (Hispanic-Latino Service Partnership) funded by the Federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS); CCEO Program (Child Care Economic Opportunity) funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), a program for family childcare providers in Lawrence and Boston MA; “Health and Food Safety” credential program funded by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA); and the Academic Student Support Enhancement and Training (ASSET) program, funded by the US Department of Education (DOE); as well as “Building Careers in ECE” funded by the Massachusetts Department of Education. Annual grant revenue presently totals about $600,000.
Position reports to the Academic Dean.
Duties:
- Coordinates advisory committees, including community partners.
- Coordinates budget needs and expenditures of funds.
- Writes and submits required reports to funding sources. and Assists in identifying, seeking, and writing grants that may originate in the Office of Academic Affairs.
Current projects:
- Assist in forming NAEYC accreditation committee.
- Support Building Careers Program (MA DEEC).
- Developing HSI Programs proposal for Title V funding (DOE).
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education related field, + at least three years of experience. Leadership success as project manager or director. Fluent in English, written and spoken. (Spanish, in addition, ideal) Capable of facilitating a team-based approach, a communicator who takes initiative and follows through.
