Library Resources

Suffolk University

UCB students have access to the Sawyer Library with an inter-library loan agreement with Suffolk University. In addition, students have access to the Sawyer Library’s Web-based instruction modules that provide in-depth information about search engines, retrieval techniques, and the evaluation of online academic resources. A direct link is provided on computers in the LRC to significant resources in the Sawyer Library Website.

Emerson College and Simmons College

A joint agreement between Emerson College, Simmons College, and Urban College provides Urban College with graduate school interns from the Simmons Graduate School of Library and Information Science. Interns will assist UCB students in using databases and print materials. Interns will also serve as liaisons between UCB students and faculty and the Emerson College Library inter-library loan service.

Boston Regional Library System (BRLS)

UCB students have access to the Boston Regional Library System(BRLS) through the Boston Public Library, including an extensive database for research and knowledge on any and every topic. UCB students use their personal library card (obtainable online) to gain access to BRLS online services, including:

Learning Resource Center (LRC)

The Learning Resource Center (LRC) offers an encompassing range of academic guidance and one-on-one tutoring for UCB students. Professionals who assist students in strengthening their writing, reading and learning skills staff the LRC. Tutorial assistance is also provided in Spanish and Cantonese.

The LRC focuses on maximizing the potential and development of each student’s learning experiences at the Urban College in a comfortable and supportive atmosphere. In addition to academic tutoring support, assistance is available to improve reading and writing skills, rehearse oral presentations, view videotapes that supplement course content, take make-up tests and search the Internet for reference materials. This varied method of assistance fosters skill development while contributing to success in mastering course content.

Trained tutors are available to work with students requiring assistance in particular courses. Arrangements for tutoring are made with the staff of the Learning Resource Center. Tutoring for math and individually paced writing programs are conducted on a one-on-one
basis. Twelve computer stations, located in the LRC, provide students
an opportunity to do internet research for class assignments and to
complete assignments.

Computer Facilities

Urban College of Boston’s LRC has twelve computer workstations.
Students can do research for class assignments and term papers and
have access to library and other research materials through the
Internet. Students are encouraged to call ahead at ext. 6552 or they
may stop by the LRC on the 7th floor to check availability of
computers.
