Priceless education and connections

UCB offers a range of services and activities designed to support, strengthen and encourage student effort, and to assist with overcoming problems which may interfere with student progress. These services and activities are tools created to enhance a student's ability to manage and direct his or her own learning and career development over a lifetime. The Office of Student Services at the Urban College serves as a resource to help students more effectively meet their personal and academic challenges, and also serves as a referral source to many community agencies and organizations.

Students are encouraged to utilize the personal, academic, and professional counseling resources of Student Services. Strict confidentiality of counseling relationships and records is maintained at all times. In addition to counseling outreach, the Office of Student Services sponsors student specific workshops and career and professional guidance. Career planning and development is a continuous process that includes academic and professional assessment at entry to UCB, career-related course work, required Professional Development seminars, internships and field work, and career counseling and workshops. In addition, the Office of Student Services sponsors student specific workshops and career and professional guidance.

Advisement and guidance are an important part of UCB's student services. At registration, students are designated an academic advisor. The student and advisor meet regularly to review and discuss the student's goals and objectives. The advisor recommends course selection and sequence and remains a key point of contact and source of guidance throughout the student's tenure at UCB. In addition to the ongoing guidance provided by the academic advisor, each student has access to staff, available to offer information on financial aid, assist with internships and field placements, engage in personal counseling, and provide referrals to other agencies and organizations.

The Learning Resource Center (LRC) offers an encompassing range of academic guidance and hands-on support services. The LRC is staffed by professionals who assist students in strengthening their writing, reading, math and learning skills. Assistance is also provided in English as a Second Language. Instruction and tutoring are related to classroom assignments, thereby fostering skill development while contributing to success in dealing with course content. The LRC is open Monday thru Thursday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm.

Through the support offered at the Urban College of Boston, students learn strategies and techniques necessary to secure professional, personal, and educational success.
