FINANCIAL SERVICES

The UCB Financial Services team is here to support you as you determine how you will pay for your education.

At UCB, most financial support provided to students is grant aid. This support is not a loan, so it does not need to be repaid. If you receive a loan, it does need to be repaid.

Tuition and Fees

Tuition

Unless you are enrolled in a contract course, classes at Urban College of Boston (UCB) cost $317 per credit/$951 for a three-credit course (starting in Fall 2023). Given the financial aid available to reduce costs, students typically pay far less than the above costs out of pocket.

Fees

  • Application Fee: $0 - no fee!

  • Registration Fee: $0 - no fee!

  • Photo I.D. Replacement Fee: $5

  • Experiential Credit Fee: $75 per credit

  • Returned Check Fee: A $25 charge will be imposed for any check returned to the Urban College of Boston because of insufficient funds.

  • Transcript Fee: UCB will provide one official transcript at no charge. Subsequent transcripts will cost $5 per transcript. Please note: processing fees will still be charged by the Clearinghouse in the event you are owed a transcript without charge from Urban College.

Payment of Tuition and Fees

Urban College accepts all major credit cards, checks, or money orders. No interest payment plans may also be established by contacting the Business Office at StudentPaymentPlans@urbancollege.edu.

Grant Aid

Financial aid awarded in the form of grants is not a loan and does not need to be paid back.

Institutional Grant Aid

UCB awards financial assistance in the form of institutional aid up to a maximum of $200 per course to eligible students. All students must complete the Institutional Aid Request Form each academic year to request aid and document eligibility. Please email Carla Desisto, Assistant Manager of Financial Aid, to start the Institutional Aid application process.

Institutional aid is a form of grant aid and does not need to be repaid.

Students who receive the maximum Pell Grant and/or MASSGrant awards will have their remaining tuition covered by institutional aid.

Students who receive partial Pell Grant and/or MASSGrant awards can apply to have institutional aid cover some of their remaining tuition.

Students who are not eligible for financial aid under federal or state grant programs may also apply to have institutional aid cover a portion of their tuition.

Pell Grants

A majority of UCB students receive Federal Pell Grants, which are gift aid entitlement grants for eligible students who complete the proper documents. These funds do not need to be repaid. Pell Grants are “awarded only to undergraduate students who display exceptional financial need and have not previously earned a bachelor's, graduate, or professional degree.” Students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to receive a Pell Grant.

More details are available on the U.S. Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid website: https://studentaid.gov/understand-aid/types/grants/pell.

Federal Supplemental Opportunity Grants (FSEOG)

Federal Supplemental Opportunity Grants (FSEOG) are need-based grants awarded to eligible students in addition to their Pell grant. FSEOG awards are given only to the neediest of Pell grant-eligible students, based on the UCB FSEOG Policy. These funds do not need to be repaid.

MASSGrant

MASSGrants are awarded by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to eligible full-time students. These grants do not have to be repaid. Massachusetts Part-Time Grants are awarded by UCB to eligible students who complete at least six (6) but fewer than 12 credit hours for the Fall and Spring terms. These grants do not have to be repaid. Students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the deadline to be considered.

More information is available at: https://www.mass.edu/osfa/programs/massgrant.asp.

State of Massachusetts Early Childhood Educators (ECE) Scholarship

The ECE Scholarship “is designed to provide financial assistance for currently employed early childhood and ‘out of school time’ educators and providers who enroll in an associate, bachelor or master's degree program in Early Childhood Education or related programs.” This scholarship does not need to be repaid. Students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the ECE application by the deadline to be considered.

More information is available at: https://www.mass.edu/osfa/programs/earlychildhooded.asp.

Tuition-Free Community College (TFCC) Plan

This City of Boston program covers up to three years of tuition and fees for eligible students. In general, students may be eligible if:

  • They have received their high school credential from a City of Boston high school (diploma, HiSET, or GED) ;

  • Are Boston residents;

  • Have a GPA of at least 2.0;

  • Are eligible for a Pell Grant (exceptions may apply); and

  • Have low to moderate household income.

For undocumented students, the program will provide last dollar tuition and fee funding for up to $2,500 per student each semester for up to three years.

Private Funding

Employer Support

Some employers pay for some or all of the cost of their employees’ courses. Please check with your employer to see if this is an option. If they need to arrange payment, please have them contact UCB’s Business Office at studentpaymentplans@urbancollege.edu.

Student Payment Plans

UCB allows students to make payment arrangements for tuition they cannot pay in full. These payment plans allow students to pay off tuition balances over the course of the semester. Any student interested in setting up a payment plan must contact UCB’s Business Office at studentpaymentplans@urbancollege.edu.

Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans

Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans are the most widely used loans for undergraduate students. Student loans must be repaid. These loans are available to every student in an eligible degree-seeking program who has submitted a FAFSA and any other required documentation.

Subsidized loans are offered to students deemed to have financial need, while unsubsidized loans are available for all students. You are not required to apply for a student loan. However, should you decide to do so, follow this link to complete the requirements: https://studentaid.gov/mpn/.

Federal Work-Study

UCB participates in the Federal Work-Study (FWS) program, which is a need-based award that allows students to work on campus and, in some cases, off campus to help pay for their educational expenses. Interested students must have completed a FAFSA, qualify for FWS, and be enrolled in at least six credits per semester. FWS wages do not need to be repaid. For more information about FWS, please contact the Financial Aid office.
