This program is designed so students can work while earning the Elder Care Certificate to advance their career. There is a growing need for elder care services, with many career opportunities in both direct care and administration! 

With your Elder Care Certificate, you can pursue various career opportunities, including becoming a community health worker, case manager, residential support specialist, a home health and personal care aide, or opening a private homecare agency.  

No matter where you are in your career, this program helps you build a strong understanding of the biological, physiological, and social dimensions of aging, and how to work effectively within healthcare and social services systems.

Urban College’s Elder Care Certificate uniquely prepares students to pass the Community Health Worker credential as part of the program. Benefits of CHW credentialing include:

There are 21 credits required to complete the Human Services Certificate. Courses may include: 

  • Concepts and Practices in Elder Care 

  • Human Behavior and Development  

  • Core Competencies for Community Behavioral Health Workers 

  • Communication & Conflict in the Helping Professions 

  • Case Management  

  • Behavioral Health Internship
