Urban College of Boston Launches Inaugural Student Government Association

An important part of a healthy college community is student engagement and representation. Student Governments have historically helped foster this environment through building leadership skills, empowering students to share ideas, and acting as a liaison between the student body and administrators.

Urban College of Boston is excited to announce the inaugural Student Government Association, comprised of four student leaders.

The Student Government Association (SGA) plays a vital role in making sure student voices are heard: spotting concerns early, fostering open communication, and helping to build a more inclusive, supportive campus community. Whether it’s through their words, actions, or the decisions they help shape, these student leaders will have a lasting impact on the Urban College experience.

Meet Your Student Government

President: Gabriela Reyes

Gabriela is a passionate advocate with a desire to bring a voice to those who may not be heard. This quality will serve her well as President. She’s a foodie, a mother, and is studying Human Services.

The President oversees the smooth operation of Student Government, leads meetings, sets agendas, and works with the Director of Student Services to guide its yearly direction. They also represent SGA to students and staff, make key decisions, encourage student involvement, and maintain accountability among members.

Vice President: Miliecent Rodriguez

Miliecent is a proud immigrant from the Dominican Republic, studying Human Services at Urban College. She’s an adept listener and is eager to help her peers have the best college experience possible.

The Vice President supports the President when needed and ensures smooth communication and organization within Student Government. Responsibilities include maintaining records, managing meeting logistics, overseeing the calendar, and ensuring compliance with SGA rules and procedures.

Ambassador of Student Success: Alecia Hunt

Alecia already helps support student success in her role as Learning Support Associate for the Learning Resource Center. She has a strong desire to see all Urban College students reach their goals. When not studying Human Services, she loves spending time outside with her son.

The Ambassador of Student Success advocates for student needs by gathering feedback, running surveys, and supporting campus involvement. They also promote participation in student events and workshops, advocating for events that would best support the students.

Ambassador of Academic Affairs: Lani McEachern

Lani, a self-described bubble tea fanatic, is a General Studies student with an interest in childcare courses. She’s a proud Chinese immigrant and dedicated to supporting her peers in any way she can.

The Ambassador of Academic Affairs represents student voices on academic issues by addressing concerns about courses, policies, and grading, while also sharing and helping develop academic resources. They also may work with faculty to improve academic support and are open to student input.

Congrats to our four incredible student leaders!

We are proud to have you represent the Urban College study body, and are excited to see how you shape the future of our college.
